"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
- John 15: 5
The year of 2020 was a unusual season for us all, to say the least. However, for myself it was a year of pruning. The peeling back of unwanted layers of self to grow fully in the image of God. It has allowed me to understand his true character and my identity in him.
You can tell a lot by a tree by the fruit it bears. It's important not to forget to remain connected to the vain of Christ to continue to bear good fruit. But, it requires pruning for the continuance of growth to walk in the fullness of Him.
What is pruning? Pruning is when you selectively remove branches from a tree. The goal is to remove unwanted branches to improve the tree’s structure, and direct new, healthy growth.
I believe this season of growth has been a separation of the wheat and tares (branches) as it pertains to the body of Christ.
As the wheat and tares grows together they look similar. You don't want to destroy the wheat along with tares, so you allow them to grow together...UNTIL...he gathers the wheat up for Himself.
Then, he prunes...IF you are willing to Surrender, Release & Grow in the purpose of God for your life, pruning must take place.
It doesn't feel good, but it is definitely necessary as we evolve as Christ followers.
Matthew 13:24- 30 says, "Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares? He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up? But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”
As the layers of yourself are being pruned, it then becomes a Character Building process that us as believers must grow through to restore Us back to our original godly position.
Read & Reflect on God's Word:
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
- John 15: 4
